Lean Cuisine’s Cruel Joke

image

image

I have been trying to lose some weight, and have been eating Lean Cuisine meals once in a while, since it is easy, already prepared, and a measured portion.

Today’s lunch was to be Lean Cuisine ‘casual cuisine’ artichoke spinach dip.  It looked pretty good from the photos on the box…

But once I opened the box, I felt cheated.  The dish it came in was all of 2.5 inches in diameter, and it was only about half full of dip.  I assure you that the spoon in my photo is a normal-sized teaspoon, not some giant serving spoon.  I feel fairly certain that most of the 200 calories came from the pita bread that was part of this ‘meal’.  What a cruel, cruel joke.

Thanks for reading!

P.S.  This is also the first post I made using my phone, which is why it looks different.

What a disappointment! No wonder it’s only 200 calories! I’ve had some of their meals, and while they’re not usually this ridiculous I always end up hungry again very soon.

  • Richard S says:

That’s why they call it lean cuisine, because the portions are lean, oh yeah if you ate those kind of meals for a year people would say you have a eating disorder LOL.

  • Janananananet says:

Oh, Lean Cuisine…You sucker us in with beautiful food pictures and people happily eating. Then, we find out the awful truth about the portion size. I once had a ravioli dinner with 6 spoon size raviolis in it. That doesn’t count as a meal unless you have 3 boxes of it. I feel your pain.

    Hi Katie,

    A cruel joke indeed!

And what’s REALLY in those ingredients?

The only frozen foods that have any true nutritional value are frozen vegetables.

Also, speaking of ‘fake food”, the next time you are in a grocery store check out the boxes of carrot cake mix
    .
There is not a trace of real carrot in any of them.

In the end it’s cheaper and better to make it yourself, and you could have had leftovers….

Lorraine – Actually, I think maybe about 3 boxes of it would have been enough for ONE person. :)

Sonja (AKA ‘mom’) – That may, actually, be their goal…Starvation Cuisine.

Caryn – You said it!! I hate that feeling of having just eaten, and being hungry again. That certainly doesn’t help one’s waistline.

Uncle Rich – I think if you eat it just a FEW times and are satisfied, you may have an eating disorder anyway. :(

Janet – My thoughts exactly. I actually wish I had had a few more servings of it…

Lesley – Actually, I have the best artichoke – spinach dip recipe in the whole world *but* every time I make it, I want to eat all of it, and I think it’s over 2,000 calories for just that. EEEK!
